写真をひとつの文化として日々の暮らしの中に根付かせたい。 写真のもつ魅力、パワー、可能性を多くの人に感じてもらい、 その価値に改めて気づいてほしい。 ──このような夢と理念のもとに創設されたのが京都写真美術館です。
“We want to make photography a form of culture present in everyday life. We want people to experience the charm, power, and potential of photography, and to rediscover its inherent value.”
It was with this dream and philosophy that the Kyoto Museum of Photography was founded.
2027新たなスタート
当初は、日本の写真家のオリジナル写真の展示・販売を行うアートギャラリーとして、多くの方々にご利用いただいてきました。2026年12月をもってその役割を終え、清永安雄のアート作品を展示する場として新たなスタートを切ります（2027年1月から）。
Originally, the museum served as an art gallery exhibiting and selling original works by Japanese photographers. That role will conclude at the end of December 2026, and in January 2027 the museum will begin a new chapter as a space dedicated to exhibiting the art of Yasuo Kiyonaga.
The Museum
Location岡崎・神宮道
京都屈指の文化ゾーン・岡崎のシンボルである平安神宮の大鳥居を臨む神宮道沿いにあり、通り沿いには画廊や古美術店が並び、国内外問わず多くの観光客で賑わっています。国際的に注目度の高いこの場所から、写真作品の展示を通して、アートの持つ力と可能性を発信していきます。
The museum is located along Jingu-michi Street, overlooking the grand torii gate of Heian Jingu Shrine, the symbol of Okazaki and one of Kyoto’s premier cultural districts. The street is lined with art galleries and antique shops and attracts large numbers of visitors from Japan and around the world. From this internationally acclaimed cultural destination, we will continue to showcase the power and potential of art through the exhibition of photographic works.
