Beginning his photographic journey in the 1930s, Ueda created numerous staged photographs featuring subjects arranged like objects against the backdrop of local sand dunes and coastlines. These works, populated by children, his wife, and friends, unfold a world rich in poetry and humor.
This unique, fantastical expression became known as the “Ueda Style (UEDA-CHO)” and captivated photography enthusiasts worldwide. In 1996, his achievements were honored with the French government’s Order of Arts and Letters, solidifying his international acclaim.
